Roberto Frega
I am a research director at CNRS, based at CEMS / EHESS in Paris. My work spans political philosophy, the philosophy of wine, and the epistemology of research with large language models.
My work began in American pragmatism and now ranges across democratic theory, the philosophy of work, and social normativity. I use research from sociology, political science, economics, and organizational theory to develop and test philosophical arguments.
I also study wine as an aesthetic and cultural object. This work draws on knowledge of producers acquired through wine import and distribution. It asks how agriculture, technique, institutions, and practices of evaluation shape what a wine can become.
My research on large language models asks what must remain under a researcher's control when these systems participate in inquiry, writing, and verification. It examines how responsibility, independent validation, and disciplinary judgment can be preserved in hybrid human–LLM research.
